Overview
The purpose of the Manual of Style is to set the general format for how pages should be set up and look, along with how images used on the Wikia should be named (file-wise).
This document is important to read before creating/setting up pages and uploading images to be used for our pages. By creating the Manual of Style and setting the foundations for pages, it will be easy for users to access information and clearly read our content. Standards are key for any community project to succeed and still be presentable. This guide will help lay out how pages should be, and much more.
Pages
Kagunes
Kagune pages shall provide information on the kagunes that are a part of Ro-Ghoul. The Kagune-specific infobox shall have its information completely filled out correctly. Page Tsukiyama is a completed example of what is expected of Kagune pages. It is modeled to be exactly like how the rest of the Kagune pages should. The next few sections will explain the guidelines to the Kagune pages and what should be included.
Information
Information on the Kagune pages shall be relevant to not only the game Ro-Ghoul but also to the actual lore and canon facts of Tokyo Ghoul (when applicable). The information should be basic to the design of the kagune, who owns it, and how it was obtained (if possible. Applicable to people such as Takizawa, Kaneki). Information that is canon to the manga and anime of Tokyo Ghoul shall try to be, if possible, preventative of any spoilers for the series.
Information within the Infoboxes shall also be accurate to the in-game data. There are no exceptions to this (minus Unreleased content) to why the information should be false. If you are confused on how to use the Infobox correctly, visit the template page for its use or use the Visual Editor, a user-friendly method for working with templates.
Stages
There shall be at least a section, marked with three "=" signs, labeled "Stages". This will give a general idea of the multiple stages/modes for a kagune. If there is only one stage/mode for the kagune, the section shall still remain, yet simply have a description noting the sole existence of only one stage/mode.
For kagunes with multiple stages, there shall be sections with four "=" signs, labeled "Stage #" (#, correlating to the stage it refers to). There shall be a brief description of the visuals of that stage and what it does, then the RC Price for the Stage. That stage shall be followed up with five "=" signs, labeled "Moves". The moves shall have a table designated with the keybinds, a description of the move, and a GIF file of that move in their respective columns and rows. Page Doujima is an example of the formatting.
Categories
The only categories that should be applied to any Kagune page is the "Kagune" category. If the page is about unreleased content, then it shall be marked as such. If the page is currently under development, the page shall be marked as such.
Quinques
Like the kagunes, quinque pages shall provide information canon to Tokyo Ghoul (if possible) and in-game information. The infobox shall be completely filled out regarding all fields that the Infobox contains. Page Doujima is a completed example of what quinque pages shall look like. Pages shall be modeled similarly off of the Doujima page with its own correct information.
Information
Information about the quinque shall be about in-game information of it, along with canon information (if possible) from the Tokyo Ghoul anime/manga. The information should be basic to the design of the quinque, who owns it, and how it functions. Frames
There shall be at least a section, marked with three "=" signs, labeled "Frames". This will give a general idea of the multiple frames for a quinx. If there is only one stage/mode for the quinque, the section shall still remain, yet simply have a description noting the sole existence of only one stage/mode.
For Quinx with multiple frames, there shall be sections with four "=" signs, labeled "Frame #" (#, correlating to the stage it refers to). There shall be a brief description of the visuals of that stage and what it does, then the RC Price for the Frame. That frame shall be followed up with five "=" signs, labeled "Moves". The moves shall have a table designated with the keybind, a description of the move, and a GIF file of that move in their respective columns and rows. Page Saiko Yonebayashi is an example of the formatting.
Categories
Every Quinx should have the category "Quinx" to their pages. Depending on their RC type, Quinx pages should also include the RC Type category (i.e. "Koukaku", "Rinkaku"). Since the Quinx are a feature only in Tokyo Ghoul :re, they also will have the tag "Re Arc".
Specials
The page Specials shall contain basic information on what a "Special" is and shall be the main hub for all Specials pages. All Specials pages shall contain the infobox {{SpecialsGhoul}} and be completely filled out if possible (see Template:SpecialsGhoul on how to document). Page Saiko Yonebayashi is an example of a completed page. The next sections will describe how to lay out the page.
Information
Due to the nature of Specials and that they are an "Original Creation" (hereon known as an "OC"), there is little information to note about the special other than its most basic stage. The information should describe the basic concept of the Special, what the Special does, and any other acceptable information for a page.
Stages
There shall be at least a section, marked with three "=" signs, labeled "Stages". This will give a general idea of the multiple stages for a Special. If there is only one stage for the Special, the section shall still remain, yet simply have a description noting the sole existence of only one stage/mode if possible (not a repeat of the basic information)
For Specials with multiple stages, there shall be sections with four "=" signs, labeled "Stage #" (#, correlating to the stage it refers to). There shall be a brief description of the visuals of that stage and whatever benefits/upgrades/changes it has, then the RC Price for the Stage. That stage shall be followed up with five "=" signs, labeled "Moves". The moves shall have a table designated with the keybind, a description of the move, and a GIF file of that move in their respective column and row. Page Spear is an example of the formatting.
Categories
Due to the nature of Specials and that they're an OC, only one category is applicable: "Specials". This is due to the nature that there seems to be no RC Type linked to Specials. There is to be no other Category assigned to these pages unless deemed otherwise by certain conditions.
Information Pages
Pages about game topics, such as "CCG", "Ghoul", "Yen", and "Locations" (to name a few) cannot be set up to an exact model, as each page has its own unique information. However, each page should have its correct information still, and be in a presentable fashion for other users to read with ease.
Information on the page shall, if possible, contain canon information to the Tokyo Ghoul anime/manga. This includes background, what it means, it's purpose, the in-game function, and any information that pertains to it in-game. If possible, do not put information that may spoil the anime/manga.
These pages cannot be regulated and set up in a strict, one-method manner. Users will have to use their knowledge, common sense, and their ability to filter out information that is not needed and put what is important. Pages shall sound professional and be composed in a manner that all users can read. Users need to make sure the pages they create are presentable to the entire community.
Amendments
The Amendments section will allow users to easily navigate to any changes to the Manual of Style and seek the date the amendment was put into effect.
Amendment 1: Important Pages
Changes to Important Pages
Administrative users are not permitted to edit or create any information on the Important Pages, period. If a change is needed, the idea shall be proposed to the Ro-Ghoul Wiki's owner and dealt with from there.
Creation of Important Pages
No Administrative user whatsoever shall create "Important" pages that give or label rules, user conduct, or etcetera information regarding topics deemed as "important". The owner of the Wiki has the right to define and judge such material and create it.
Amendment 2: "Edit Summary"
Pages that are updated are required to have an "Edit Summary". Please accurately describe what has been changed in the "Edit Summary". Reasons such as:
- Adding information
- Fixing spelling mistakes
- Editing information
- Removing information
- Fixing vandalism
- Updating to fit Manual of Style
Are all fit reasons to use as the "Edit Summary". When writing the "Edit Summary", please use one of those terms or write what you deem as fit for the edit you've made. Regarding "Minor edits", please check the box labeled as such and either leave the "Edit Summary" blank or write: "Minor edit". Minor edits are, such as:
- One single spelling/punctuation fix
- Changing a number whose role is minor and/or insignificant
- Adding a new image to a gallery/infobox/page
Amendment 3: "Passives"
If a kagune/quinque has a passive ability, the passive ability shall be noted. Passive abilities shall be included under the respective stage/mode it falls under. These shall be noted in the Stages with a bullet point ("*text") and titled "Passive:". Details about what the passive ability does shall follow.
Amendment 4: "Periods VS Commas"
This Wiki is in English and therefore follows the English system of numbers. Numbers in the thousands, millions, or more, will use commas to separate instead of periods.
- "7,000,000" (seven million) is the proper way to separate between groups of thousands, millions, or more.
- "7.000.000" (seven million) is not a passable method for pages on the Ro-Ghoul Wiki. While many other countries follow this system, the two major English-speaking nations do not use this system. Since Ro-Ghoul Wiki is English-only (for now), this system will not be used.
Amendment 5: "Pronouns and Tense"
Pages should be written in the style of the past tense in the English language. Pages should not be written in the present or future tense. When using pronouns referring to persons, pronouns shall remain "neutral" (i.e. "they", "them", "their", etc). No gender-specific pronouns (i.e. "he", "she", "his", "hers", "him", "her", etc) shall be used on pages/articles unless referring to a character in an encyclopedic context (i.e. "This is Arima's quinque. He is the CCG's Reaper"). Pronouns should also be third-person, not second-person (i.e. "you") or first-person (i.e. "me", "I", etc). This is to help make the style more encyclopedic.
Amendment 6: "Images"
Images for information pages are not permitted to be doctored/edited at all. Cropping images is still permitted. However, any after-capture adjustments such as details, lighting, colors, etc, are not permitted. The goal of images is to provide a clear and accurate depiction of the item being documented. Images will be removed if found to be doctored/edited.
Image file names need to be relevant to the image. Gibberish such as "Ezgif-4-41bf9d0e43bc.gif" or "RobloxScreenshot-123523.jpg" will not be permitted. Please use filenames such as "GinkuiE.png" (this is a good example because it tells WHAT the image is and WHAT it is for). Should a user not do this, they can still edit the file name when uploading the image through the "Add New Image" feature (Special:Upload). This is to keep the editing process more streamlined.
Images that are not of your own creation nor of your ownership are not permitted to be used on informational pages. This includes media such as cropped YouTube thumbnails or artwork. Before uploading an image, please check and make sure the licensing is correct. Do not add images to pages that do not belong to you. Should you upload an image that violates copyright or the owner's rights, you will be punished severely. If you have permission from the owner to do so, please mark the licensing as such and keep proof on-hand. Images part of User Blogs or other non-informational pages will not be met with such strict scrutiny, but will still be scrutinized.
- Users can upload images and select licensing via the "Add New Image" option on the homepage under the ellipse button near the "New Page" button. From there, they can select licensing and rename the file. These features can also be accessed when uploading an image directly to a page under "More Options"
